In Portland, the FIC is a resource for client based product and process development, shelf life studies, food safety, and consumer sensory testing.

Research work is conducted to develop innovative processing, packaging and traceability technologies, and address food safety challenges. The FIC also engages in scholarly research in agricultural economics and marketing. Clients include producers, processors, marketers, and entrepreneurs.

Located 10 miles northwest of Portland, the forest is the College of Forestry’s newest research and demonstration forest.

The forest was acquired in 2025 at no cost to OSU through a partnership led by the Trust for Public Land, with funding from the U.S. Forest Service Forest Legacy Program and Metro. The 3,100-acre forest will support research, restoration and education while expanding access to recreation and nature-based learning, with broader public access anticipated beginning in 2027. 

Home to the top-ranked forestry program in the U.S., the College of Forestry offers six undergraduate degrees, five graduate degrees, and stewards 10 research forests across the state. These 18,000 acres of living laboratories support research, hands-on learning and serve as demonstration sites for Forestry and Natural Resources Extension specialists.
